Dog Grooming Scissors: Chunkers For Pomeranian
Best Dog Grooming Scissors I found for Pomeranians and Spoodles.
Chunker scissors for me are one of the most importante tools when we talk about groom, well, I would say for me, because every groomer has their own opinion.
However, I want to make a space here to talk about my grooming style, as I am a veterinarian and my very best choose is to care about animal health in general I want to translate that into the grooming space where I do a natural look on dogs and also what is best for them based on my medical knowledge.
My grooming style is usually based on the breed and the coat type but is most likely that I watch the Health condition first and then the hair condition, for example an old dog can't be treated on the same way as younger one or in the totally different way a puppy, where a puppy if is their first time we have to make all the ritual of grooming introduction.
Let's talk about chunker scissors: Perfect for creating that soft, natural finish without harsh lines. Let's see how that works on two different coats. Pomeranian and then an spoodle.
In this video we're going to talk first about Pomeranian, specifically head. Pomeranian hair is a double coat with a dense undercoat, that requires constant brushing and maintenance, their hair can be matted if not treated or if you just send them to the groomers without brushing it by yourself. Their fluffy double coat can look bulky around the face. As you can see in this video we concentrate on their head which also includes ears. Chunkers helps blend those thick areas while keeping that cute rounded teddy bear, look.
I start by con combing the full forward. Then then lightly scissors around the cheek and ears using short small motions. The key is not to remove too much. Just soften the edges and blend the top of the head into the neck.
Notice how the chunkers leave a feathering finish instead of a blank line. That's exactly what you want to, on this type of coat. Now, the next video is about another dog which is a completely different type of coat, not a doble coat anymore but have a curly or wavy single coat, usually low shedding and allergy friendly, this type of dogs like in the video, the spoodle, the coat is curlier and softer. So, the chunkers are great for texturizing and balancing the shape.
After a straight scissor trim, I lift the head with a comb. Then, lightly go over areas that look bulky, especially around the cheeks, muscle, and top knot. Because chunkers remove less hair with each cut, they're perfect for fine toning without over thinning.
You can see how they create natural blending transition between the face and ears, giving the professional polish
finish.
Chunkers are all about blending, no ball cutting. Use it right. They make every train look softer, smoother, and
perfectly natural.
