Which Dog Grooming Blades Should You Use? Heiniger Blade 4F vs 5F for Dogs review
Clipper Blades Heiniger
For this review, I have put hundreds of hours into testing my own personal blade #4 and #5 throughout the years, so I'm very familiar with how they work and operate on a daily basis. I'll go over comfort, battery life, hair cut description and overall value.
I'll be sharing my critical opinion with 5 years of experience as a professional groomer and Vet for 10 years.
Let's dive right in!
Hi, everyone, today in VetNourish we want to help you choose the right blades. Here's my HONEST Heiniger blade #4 and #5 review for those wondering if they're still worth it in 2025!
Understanding as blade the sharp, comb-like cutting tool that attaches to a hair clipper's motor to cut hair.
Knowing which one is good for you could save you from shaving the dog unintentionally or doing it too long when is summer, in this case we want to make the difference between blade number 4 and blade number 5.
Should you buy the Blade #4 or #5?
I recently sell mywhich I consider one of the best and when the lady came to pick it up she asked me what is the difference between these blades and I explain her that if she want a summer clip I would rather do number
and if we still in autumn I would do number
. But, this is just talking about an average cavoodle or all poodle mixes. So, depending of the breed this can be longer or shorter, for example in a long hair groodle both can be very short, but as I said in a cavalier is about 1 inch long.
As an extra information: When the dog is very matted I would recommend to the owner to shave it because unfortunately the knots never gets better, instead it will grow until the dog can possibly have a skin infection. In this cases we use number 7, but also we can use number 5 if the knots are'nt very tight or close to the skin.
When the summer is close, owners usually wants to go shorter on their dogs hair and is fair because otherwise the knots can cause many extreme conditions which just starts with one knots who become matting and that matting when couldn't dry properly and the bad bacterias act on the skin (because dogs has also good bacterias for their skin protection or barrier) they start to proliferate and its when a skin problems can appear.
In my experience knots everywhere are bad but the one is the worst is close to the ears because even when they can cause these problems they also can lead to ear infection and when we talk about ears is tricky but once you get there you better do everything in your power to get out otherwise ear infection can lead to nerve inflamation and I had once to recommend an amputation of the dog ear. So, just take that in mind, and also I haven't talk about vet expenses either.
The blade is best for summer clip and when you want to keep it long or mainteining their hair you can also ask your groomer to use
.
